coton 3 EAGLES 3....

With the curtain half way down on what has been a truely great season, the REDS travelled the short distance to Coton for both teams finale...and it did not disappoint.

The Reds started much quicker today and had a firm grip on proceedings and it was Tom S who opened the scoring with a firm left foot drive, his confidence has returned after a good settled season playing for the Reds.

Coton hit the post twice before equalising with a well taken drive to level the match 1-1. Indeed it was Coton who were the better now as they launched their long throws at the Reds defence, who somehow cleared the dangers. But a decent lob just before half time gave Coton a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw both teams have chances but both struggled to cope with the  long grass which the groundsman decided to leave for us, he cut every other blade of the rec, but left Coton`s U10s pitch. Having said that, the Eagles who play better when doing so from the back, did try to pass the ball around.

Coton were defensively strong and with 5 minutes to go it did look as though that was it for the day, then a mad spell, the Reds played out from the back and worked the ball out to the left where Eden smashed in the equaliser 2-2. From the kick off the reds stole the ball from the Coton forwards and again worked it out to the left, in came the drive which fell kindly to JD who tapped in from close range 2-3 and only a minute to go...Up steps Bertie and thundered the equaliser past the Reds stand in keeper 3-3.

The game ended 3-3 and it was a very fair result  as both teams put a lot into it.

Another team who would like to get a 9 v 9 friendly going with us, duely accepted.

Well done to both teams for a great end of season game.
